Weedsport, NY — September 28, 2010 – By Tom Skibinski, DIRTcar Racing Northeast PR Director
Its Super DIRT Week so why not kick off trackside activity with a ‘Super Happy Hour’ on the Syracuse Mile?
DIRTcar Racing officials recently extended opening day practice on Wed., October 6 at the New York State Fairgrounds to three full hours, 3-6 p.m., for any pre-entered Big-Block Modified, 358-Modified and Sportsman Modified team.
‘Futures’ entries in all three Modified divisions are welcome to participate in this mid-week warm-up with a nominal practice fee applying to any day of show entries. Big-Blocks and Small-Blocks will run together while Sportsman will stage a separate hot lap session as Super DIRT Week XXXIX, Oct. 6-10, officially gets underway.
“The opportunity to expand our traditional Wednesday afternoon practice session and offer it to any pre-entered Big-Block Modified, 358-Modified and Sportsman competitor is something we are extremely happy to do,” said Roger Slack, Executive Vice President of Events for World Racing Group. “This will give the drivers and teams, including the entrants in the “Futures” races, more time to transition and get acclimated to the ultra-high speeds of the Moody Mile.”
Action moves off-track after hours on Wednesday evening for a “Welcome to Super DIRT Week” party at Quaker Steak and Lube in nearby Warners, N.Y. beginning at 6 p.m. Among the Big-Block stars joining in for a special meet & greet autograph session will be defending Super DIRT Week champion Matt Sheppard, record seven-time Super DIRTcar Series Champion Brett Hearn, inaugural DIRTcar All-Star Weekend winner Ryan Phelps, current Mr. DIRTcar points runner-up Jimmy Phelps and former child actor turned DIRTcar racer Michael Storms.
Super DIRT Week continues Thursday with the traditional ‘Media Day’ at the John Hill Infield Conference Center, followed immediately by Bilstein Shocks Time Trials for both Big-Blocks and 358-Modifieds plus 358 and Sportsman ‘Futures’ events for rising stars.
The Friday card is headlined by the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars ‘King of the Mile’ Dash, along with NAPA Big-Block Triple 20 and Pullen’s Truck Center 358-Modified Twin 20 qualifying races, plus Sportsman Time Trials before first-time Big-Block and Pro Stock pilots contest in their own ‘Futures’ finale.
The weekend is filled with main events for DIRTcar Northeast’s top traveling series — ‘Salute To Troops 150’ 358-Modified Championship and ‘SUNY Canton 30’ Sportsman Championship races on Saturday, with the SEF 200 for Big-Blocks and ‘BNC Motorsports 25’ Pro Stock Championship showcased on Sunday afternoon.
